Lieutenant Hampton entered the fire service in 2000 at the Cleveland Fire Department. He moved up the ranks from Firefighter to Engineer to Lieutenant in the Fire Prevention Division in 2022. He has an Associate Degree in Fire Science from Chattanooga State as well as an Advanced-EMT-License which he has held since 2009. He holds numerous certifications from the Tennessee Commission on Fire Fighting.
