CLEVELAND, TN – The city of Cleveland is excited to announce the official grand opening of Cleveland’s newly improved and re-engineered Deer Park. The celebration is set to take place on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Deer Park, located at 457 17th Street NW, Cleveland, TN 37311.
The renovations at Deer Park will provide a backyard “theme” and experience for families, children and park goers that will visit the revitalized park. The backyard recreation concept incorporates the natural elements, such as the creek, found within the park to create a unique experience.
“Deer Park is a significant community asset and plays a pivotal role in providing quality recreation for our community,” said City Manager Joe Fivas. “I appreciate the hard work and commitment from all our city staff who were involved with this project and a special thanks to City Engineer Brian Beck and his staff for the numerous hours they worked to perfect the park’s design.”
Improvements to the recreational facility will include the installation of: glass fiber reinforced concrete structures, a zip-line, climbing wall, carousel, bridges, crawl tubes, ADA sidewalks, spiral slides, swings, and a new three-story playground tree-house for children 5 to 12 years in age.
The new enhancements at Deer Park qualify the park as a certified National Demonstration Site by Playcore. This designation means the city went through an engaged planning process and followed evidence-based design principles with the surrounding built environment to further advance experiences of those using the facility. “National Demonstration Sites illustrate community vitality across a variety of influences, including social-emotional, environmental, health, community engagement, public services, and educational opportunities.”
“I’m extremely pleased in the transformation of Deer Park into a vibrant community space with state-of-the-art recreational equipment that will provide an extraordinary family experience for all in our community,” said Cleveland Mayor Kevin Brooks.
"Deer Park has been a community anchor for generation," said Councilman Bill Estes. "As Cleveland continues to initiate quality of life improvements, I'm glad the Council is of one mind that recreation and local parks across the city serve as an economic driver for our community."
The grand opening includes a ceremonial ribbon cutting with the Mayor and Cleveland City Council and other city officials plus live music, food, games and other activities.
“The community has patiently waited for the reopening of Deer Park, said Parks and Recreation Director Patti Petitt. “The completion of this project is a major milestone for our city, and I am proud to have helped implement this beautifully renovated park.”
