Animal Complaints
The handling of animal complaints is a function that all officers of the Cleveland Police Department must perform from time to time. Normally, the Animal Control Officer handles these matters during the hours he/she is on duty and the animal is taken to the Animal Control Division. Animal Control Officers shall be responsible for responding to all animal complaints within their jurisdiction.
Responsibilities
Animal control officers and every patrol officer shall have the authority and discretion to enforce the city codes relating to animals by:
- Verbal discussions with the owner or person in possession or control of the animal, in an attempt to resolve the dispute through informal means.
- Issuance of a "door knocker" form as notification of the violation of a city ordinance regulating animals or fowls. This "door knocker" may be left on the front door knob (if no one is present) or served in person by an officer.
- Issuance of a citation to the Cleveland Municipal Court or to the General Sessions Court of Bradley County to the owner or person in possession or control of the animal.
- Impoundment of the animal at the Animal Control Division.
